Shazam is designed to protect your information and enable you to choose what you share.
• You can use Shazam with or without an account. When you use Shazam with an account, your songs are saved to the account and your Shazam data will be associated with you. If you use Shazam without an account, your Shazam data will be associated with a Shazam ID that is not associated with you.
• On Apple devices, when you are signed in to your Apple Account, your songs use iCloud and are associated with you. On Android devices, you can create an account using an email address or third-party service.
• We collect information about your Shazam activity, such as the songs you identify using the service, to display the list of your discoveries in your Library, and to provide you with recommended music.
• We also collect information about how you use the app, such as which pages you view and buttons you tap, to improve the service and user experience for all users.
Protecting the privacy and security of your information is a priority for everyone at Apple and Shazam. We work hard to collect only the data we need to make your experience better, and when we do collect data we believe it’s important for you to know what we’re collecting and why we need it, so you can make informed choices.
Using Shazam Without an Account
If you use Shazam without creating an account, the information collected is not associated with you. Instead, your data is stored against a Shazam ID that is not linked to any of your personal data. You can reset your Shazam ID by going to Shazam Settings > About > Reset Installation ID. When using Shazam without an account, if you uninstall and reinstall the app, the list of songs you previously identified will be removed. If you want to retain that history or sync it across devices, you can choose to use Shazam with an account.
Using Shazam with an Account
If you choose to use Shazam with an account, the information collected will be associated with you.
On Apple devices, when you are signed in, your songs will use iCloud and be associated with your Apple Account. You can delete your songs from iCloud by deleting them within the Shazam app while signed in. On your iOS or iPadOS device, you can disable iCloud syncing by going to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and tapping to turn off Shazam. When you disable iCloud syncing, the songs saved to iCloud will remain in your iCloud account, but new songs that you Shazam will not be added.

On Android devices, you can create an account using an email address or third-party service. If you create an account using a third-party service, Shazam may receive some information about you from that network. For example, when you sign in to Shazam using Google, we may receive from Google your Google ID, email address, profile photo, whether your email was verified, and your Shazam account creation and last sign-in time. If you sign out of your account, your Shazam data will remain in your account, but new songs you find will not be added. You can reset your Shazam ID by signing out of Shazam, then going to Shazam Settings > About > Reset Installation ID.
Information Collected About You
We collect data about which songs you identify in Shazam to display them on your Library page and to recommend songs, playlists, and events within the app that may be of interest to you.
We also collect information about your activity in Shazam to improve the app, including the pages you view and buttons you tap, device information such as make and model, operating system version, and IP address. This information can help us identify places in the app where users are encountering problems or popular features to make more prominent. We may also use this information to detect fraud or misuse of the service and may approximate your location to offer Shazam charts of trending songs.
We may use deidentified, aggregate information, such as the songs identified using Shazam and the city and country of each Shazam, to support related Apple products and services.
You can choose to provide Shazam with access to your device’s location while you are using the app. We use location data to show you where your songs were discovered, display upcoming events in your area, and improve the quality of the service. You can disable Location Services for Shazam at any time by going to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, and setting location access for Shazam to Never.
Apple Music and Spotify
If you use an account and link Shazam with Apple Music or Spotify, we keep a record that your accounts are linked. Information about your Apple Music or Spotify account is used by Shazam to provide features such as allowing you to add songs you identified with Shazam to your Apple Music or Spotify playlists. If you use Shazam without an account, linking Apple Music or Spotify does not result in the provision of identifiable information to us.
Apple Music is automatically linked to Shazam while you have an Apple Music subscription, and Shazam may personalize recommendations in the Shazam app based on whether you are subscribed. To manage how Shazam is linked with Apple Music or Spotify, go to Shazam Settings.
Shazam Web Browser Extension
When you download and install the Shazam extension to your web browser, we collect information about how you use the extension, such as which songs were recognized, to improve the service and user experience for all users. The information collected is not associated with you.
Push Notifications
If you turn on Notifications for Shazam, we may send you push notifications related to your Shazam activity.
Sharing with Third Parties
We share deidentified, aggregate information, such as the songs identified using Shazam and the city and country of each Shazam, with our partners, including music labels and artists. This information allows our partners to understand which tracks are encountering success in the market.
Applicable Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data
We process your personal data in Shazam generally for performance of your contract with Apple, as necessary for providing the service, and to comply with our legal obligations. Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, we seek it in accordance with applicable local law. Where applicable local law provides, we process personal data as necessary for purposes of our legitimate interests or those of a third party in order to:
• Display relevant content to you
• Help improve and optimize Shazam for you and others
• Provide reporting to publishers, artists, labels, and chart compilers
• Prevent fraud and other malicious activity
The data used includes:
• The songs you identify with Shazam
• Your use of the Shazam app, such as the pages you view and buttons you tap
• Details about your device and account, including any Apple Music subscription
• Your IP address
Managing Your Data
You can manage your data at www.shazam.com/privacy. At all times, information collected by Apple will be treated in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy, which can be found at www.apple.com/privacy.
